Preparedness

They say insanity is when you keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Not being prepared is my insanity.

I know that every single time I don't prepare, it ends up in disaster. This morning is a prime example. I knew I was out of produce and breakfast stuff, but I'm leaving for the three day weekend, and I didn't want to buy food that would go bad while I was gone. I didn't prepare for this morning's breakfast and I was starving, so I stopped at Burger King. I was convinced I could find something that wasn't too bad.

I must have sat in front of that drive thru menu board for 5 minutes, trying to discern which was the least damaging item. I really didn't want to say "fuck it" and spend a lot of WW points because I'm going to be traveling today after work and road trips are precarious for me when it comes to food. I ordered a BK breakfast muffin sandwich. Here was my logic: McDonald's egg mcmuffin is not "terrible" in points and it has canadian bacon instead of sausage or bacon.

Well, I get the sandwich and it does NOT have canadian bacon. It has sausage. I should have instantly taken the sausage off. I didn't. I ate it. I did NOT, however, eat any tater tots hasbrown thingies. I thought I had done alright until I calculated the points and that one little sandwich is ELEVEN points. Sigh.

What's most ridiculous is that of COURSE I could have bought some fruit and what-not and taken what I didn't eat with me to my brother's in Phoenix. Bananas are a much better road trip food than chips. So I'll be PREPARING and buying that stuff before I leave out for Phoenix.

I'd love to say this is only in the food department, but really, I'm a bit of a procrastinator and it carries through to the rest of my life. Things creep up on me when I mistakenly think I have more time. My brother's graduation, my mom's visit for said graduation, my friend's wedding...everything feels like it sneaks up on me when really it's my lack of preparedness that gets me in trouble every time.
