Whole Foods Diet?

I've been thinking a lot lately about raw food, vegan, vegetarian and whole food diets. Last October, I did a 10 day juice/raw food fast. I had mostly fresh veggie and some fruit juices, and I would allow myself raw vegetables for dinner. This worked so well for me and I felt so great after the 10 days.

For myself and The Persian, I know this isn't a feesible diet to continue and raw is very hard to maintain. Plus, I love to cook.

This leads me to thinking more about vegan/vegetarian and whole foods. I don't mind vegetarian at all. We've actually started incorporating meatless days into our weeks regularly, and without much effort. It just works for us. Is it sustainable for us? I'm not sure.

A whole foods diet holds a lot of appeal to me, since it involves me preparing most of our meals, which I love. I find that after a week of cooking most of our meals instead of eating out at restaurants or picking up fast foods, I feel so accomplished.

I feel like vegan or vegetarian does not necessary promote health. I actually know a lot of vegetarians that eat a lot of processed foods that are not healthy, but are still vegetarian.

The Persian and I do a fairly decent job of buying whole foods already. We consume a LOT of produce, both fruits and veggies. We eat a lot of yogurt, but we generally eat lowfat, and I'm not sure if that counts as whole foods. We dig the tofu stir fry a couple times a week, and have a lot of rice, but usually basmati, not brown.

I truly feel that it's so logical to just eat healthy, sensible foods. I have never taken the cabbage soup diet, diet pills, or master cleanse to heart. I need to eat and I love to eat. I love to cook. I love grocery shopping, menu planning, and hearing people say "MMM" when they try my dishes. I love Weight Watchers and the reason I loved it was because I could still eat food and I enjoyed making food that people couldn't believe was low in points.

With the change to calorie counting, it just feels right to make the move toward a more whole foods diet. Now if I can just get rid of the damn soda problem!
